Stumpers and Websites
My favorite websites were those of:
1) Shannon, becuase she chose the right colors and formatting so that the website was easy to read and navigate around. She also had some really neat pictures.
2) Xin, becuase she also made her website very navigable, but also she was very creative with her pages and links.
3) Kealey, because she has the cutest colors and pictures. Her website was really fun and I especially enjoyed her page about travelling.
My favorite stumper photos were those of:
1) Patrick, because he took the photo at night and so the lighting is really cool.
2) Bart, because he took his at the library and since I am up there just about every day, it was cool to see a picture from there.
3) Mary-Alice, because she took a picture of a cute stone table that is right outside of my dorm. It is a great study spot and I'm glad she chose it.

Power Point 101: Less is More
Bad Power Point
My favorite "bad" presentations were that of:
1)Miti, because not only was her presentation very thorough on the bad aspects of presentations, but it was very entertaining as well.
2)Mary-Alice, because her presentation covered pretty much every aspect of a power point that can contribute to a "bad" presentation. Not to mention it was well organized and executed.
3)Shannon, because she was the only person to cover the timing of the slides, which is a very important aspect that can sometimes make or break a presentation.
General things to be careful of with Power Point:
-When adding pictures, sounds, or videos, one should make sure that the media is relevant to the presentation and not too distracting.
-Fonts and backgrounds should be chosen with legibility and the audience in mind.
-Animations should be kept at a minimum because they are distracting.
-One should not put all of the information on the slide but rather a summation of the information for the benefit of the viewers.

Copyright
When using pictures off the Internet, the first thing to check for is if the picture is copyrighted. Unless there is specific approval from the owner (say from a public photo-sharing website), it is best to assume that the photo is copyrighted. This requires that the original owner be sited, especially if the photo is being used in a scholarly endeavor. The easiest way to cite correctly is to use a source such as citationmachine.net that not only shows the correct form of photo citation but even walks you through the process.

Web 2.0
I found the Time article on Web 2.0 to be really interesting. Each year, Time Magazine chooses one notable person to be the Person of the Year, and it is very exciting to see who they choose and why they choose them. For the magazine to choose "you" (or me) as the person of the year is a very bold statement in regards to Web 2.0. I agree with their foresight, because I have seen firsthand the unbelievable growth in social networking sites and wiki pages, and I also believe that they will continue to evolve and grow.
That is to say unless the government and special interest groups become involved. Web 2.0 is already getting a bad name for copyright infringements and sexual harassment cases, and at some point I do believe that the government will pass laws limiting the freedom with how people can use the programs.
Despite that, Web 2.0 is freedom of speech and expression at its best and I am not embarrassed to say that I have participated in a few YouTube videos.

Previous Word Experience
My word experience is really limited to writing papers and e-mails, which is pretty basic as it is. I would really like to just hone those basic skills since I am going to be writing many papers throughout college.
Some things I saw and wanted to learn more about in the Chapters was positioning graphics, since that was giving me a hard time for the homework. One other thing would be the Find & Replace tool, since I have never used it on any of my typing.

All About Katie
My name is Katie Markovich, and I am from Austin, TX. Before moving to Austin about 7 years ago, I lived in Chicago for most of my life, and so I consider myself a mid-westerner at heart. I enjoy playing all kinds of sports, especially soccer, biking, and ultimate Frisbee. I also love to bake, and since my hall does not have a kitchen, I plan on becoming an expert with the microwave. I am pretty small (5'1"), and I am sad to say that this characteristic is probably the best way to differentiate myself from others.
As for my computer background, I have used Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint) throughout my academic career, yet I would not say I am very good at it. I did take a Computer Science class in high school where I learned basic Java programming. I look forward to delving myself into the wonderful world that is CS 1300.
